Tall Tales

Tall Tale - an American creation which is a fictitious tale based on a real life character or event. They are filled with exaggerations, similes, metaphors, and descriptive language. They are told as if true, but the listeners know that the story could have never happened as told. Legends

A legend is a semi-true story, which has been passed on from person-to-person and has important meaning or symbolism for the culture in which it originates. 1. A legend usually includes an element of truth, or is based on historic facts, but with mythical qualities. (They often appear to be based on fact, but the facts are not provided to support the various claims.) 2.  Legends usually involve heroic characters or fantastic places and often encompass the spiritual beliefs of the culture in which they originate.
